A skilled Roy can beat any Marth.
-
Master the Jab > Bair combo, it is your most reliable kill option
-
Do not always land with aerials. Your sweet spot is at the hilt and will be easily countered by shield > grab. Once the opponent is conditioned to shield, land with grab. Then mixup.
-
Never stop moving. Do no approach with shield or grab. Pressure shields with jabs and down tilt. Bait and punish with Flare Blade.
-
When an opponent is shielding, stagger when you click the attacks of his side B to either make opponent drop shield, or be able to make an escape
-
Watch Izaw's Art of Roy video. It's definitely worth it, he explains neutral very thoroughly in a short manner. However, though he explains the common neutral, you can change him up to your own style
-
crouch cancel ftilt is better than dash attack because it leaves you less vulnerable. practice it in training mode a lot so you don't accidentally dash attack while going for kills.
-
Roys advantage state is f****** oppressive. His combo game is great, he can get alot out of downthrow follups and reads, is an amazing techchaser.
Go shmoovin around, find an opening and go FIRE
-
Fight them ghost's bruh you'll just win
-
Roy has fantastic kill power as long as you can bait out your opponents panic options such as counters and throwing out moves with great priority.
-
Roy is kinetic. Move those feet and attack, mix-up with grabs and jab. Against low-mid level players who roll towards center stage from the ledge, position yourself so you can neutral b or side smash.
-
Be patient. Roy might be a rushdown swordie but spamming everything doesn't achieve much. Learn to tomahawk and mix-up. side b kills at about 75% from the ledge if done with the forward finisher.
-
Use sliding forward tilt, c-stick set on tilt, quickly move your direction from one side to the other simultaneously flicking the c-stick
-
If you're going to use forward finisher on side b, work in some up variants on hits 2 and 3 or just 3, depending on the character. This will help the finisher hit the sweetspot.
-
Roy is a bait-and-punish type of character. His job is to overwhelm and pressure his opponent without leaving himself too open for punishment. Look for openings and almost always fight up-close.
-
Roy is a very movement heavy character, you want to be constantly moving around erratically to make sure you're opponent won't start to learn how you play.
-
If you hit his side B use it as forward-forward-up-forward to maximize the chance of hitting the strong hitbox which kills very early
-
Use jab lol its a good thing to use bro
-
Dair isn't the bast edeguard option. go instead with a full hop to charged neutral b offstage, release at contact area. This usually can't be teched. Use a lot of aerials and read with a smash to kill
-
On shorter characters like pikachu, you can approach with a back air, since its hit box is lower than roy

Steve is a great match up, all you need to do is avoid the wind box on up smash, counter when they come at you with minecraft, and watch out and don't always run up on them, and attack when they mine
-
Use u b it has armor on first frames
-
Although it may seem like Roy players are just swinging at ghosts, pro players tend to use this strategy as bait since his moves have little end lag or to make the enemy think they aren't as good.
-
Try to not spam his counter as the opponent can punish that. Try to only use his counter against a strong attack like ganon’s forward smash.
-
d-air into jab/f-tilt. thats all u need
-
After a D-Throw, you can follow up with about 2-3 FAirs, if not more.
D-Tilt at ledge can mess up a lot of recoveries with the sourspot.
-
Roy is literally the most Unga Bunga character on the roster... you're good
-
When using his side b, use the up one bc it combos better with nair and fair.
-
Don't Suck. That is a good tip. Use it wisely.
