This guy is cool but Jesus he's annoying

Steve's building can deny soooo many recoveries. Any you can send somebody with a bad recovery in the minecart and gimp them with Fair or build above them.

Stand right next to the ledge an down tilt on characters like pit, Dark pit, Rosalina, and others with good recoveries if they're offstage.

Make sure to space your moves and create a zone. Steve excels at edge guarding and keeping the opponent away. I highly advise you learn how to handle rushdown/zone-breaker characters as well.

Everything about Steve revolves around mining, so keeping steve from mining is key. This includes rushdown tactics, fast disruptive projectiles, and keeping Steve in disadvantage to exhaust materials.

Why on this list are Simon and Richter not together, they literally have the same attacks.

I've found Isabelle to be an excellent counter pick against Steve thus far - can pocket his minecart, flint fire, dynamite and his anvil. Btw the Anvil when pocketed then rethrown is a shield break

When Steve makes a 2 block wall, they're trying to make your approach narrow. Don't just jump over the wall because that's the most obvious move. Use a safe aerial on the blocks and wait for reaction.

When playing steve, mine both your anvil and TNT because you can get good minerals. When playing against, use range attacks and avoid the flint and steel. Plus fall on top of him and dodge down.

You can kill anybody at 40 if you just place a block two blocks up at the edge (wood or better so you can hit them in time) and then make them touch the bottom with a strong attack just like that!!!

You can use down tilt at ledge to either launch them if too late or launch them down if just right and launch them in a downwards angle rinse repeat til they give up or you run or end them yourself!

He has the funny forward tilt. It can also combo into uptilt which combos into upsmash. Also, use TNT for characters with Flame related recoveries, such as Fox, Falco, and Roy.

Mine at any space you have between attacks, as it is important that you use your blocks to disrupt attacks or to tech on if launched. Also make sure to upgrade your tools and don't use TNT that much

Steve excels at edge guarding. However, it is harder for Steve to edge guard characters that can mix up their recoveries. Make sure you figure out your opponent's recovery patterns and read them.

Don't jump over any walls he makes and instead either hit him while he's building them or use a safe move on the wall. Don't let him get diamonds and taking a stock resets his progress towards another

Don't go for TNT unless the enemy is 0 IQ. Characters with slow recoveries are ez victims of down tilt at the ledge. The magma block can be used to get an ez KO against peeps who attack from above.

The only character with a wrong way to play. When you have lesser tools, try to play zoner. When you have the better stuff like diamond, play rushdown.

Get him banned at your local tournament

I’m surprised Sephiroth is not on the top Counter list, Both Sephiroth and Steve are great counters for eachother

Put a TNT under you, then hit down from there, dodge the air to avoid the explosion, just don't overuse this mechanic

Steve is the slowest character (dash) in the game. Steve is also the best character in the game. This tells you something about the optimal way to play Ultimate. Camping wins.

With blocks, Steve can perform ground based defensive options while midair. He can shield, spot dodge, or roll (although your mileage with rolling may vary). A surprise jab might help as well.
